WHAT TO KNOW
THE DAY OF YOUR SESSION
Your session will last about 30 or so minutes. This will be more than enough time to get some really great shots. If you happen to be running late, please let us know.
Please arrive five minutes before your scheduled time. This will help us get you acquainted with the studio and process before taking your headshot. It will also give you some time to do some last minute touch-ups or preparation, if necessary.
Please have your clothing, hair, and makeup 100% ready by the time you arrive. Heavy retouching on images is an additional $35 per image. Ladies (and gentlemen), keep those flyaways tamed.
Take a look through the gallery and have some shots in mind that you would like to emulate. Achieving the right look with the right studio setup will be crucial in giving you exactly what you're looking for in a headshot.
Bring an outfit that will give us a couple looks to work with. In other words, if you plan to wear a button down or a blouse, bring a suit coat or jacket you can throw on over it in case we have time to get another look. This is a very simple and practical way to accomplish different looks. Try not to wear any stripes or patterned clothing. Whites, lighter colors, neutrals, and bold colors are the best.
A little more detail on clothing. Your wardrobe can tell a lot about you and what you are trying to achieve. Different styles of clothing and color options can affect the way a viewer or potential employer views you as a person, even before meeting you. This is mostly subconscious, which is why it's important to be conscious about what you wear. The most important thing to keep in mind is this: is what I’m wearing going to convey the image I'm going for? This will vary from actor to musician to corporate executive to an MBA student. There’s no perfect solution, just give it some forethought so you’re ready to go the day of the shoot. Here are some things to consider as you do the wardrobe selection:
Well-fitting dresses, blouses, or button-down shirts are great. Showing a little bit of skin can actually be a good thing, but not too much. Use your best judgement. Don’t let your wardrobe downgrade your current job position or possible future job position. On the other hand, taking a little risk for the sake of a great quality photo can speak positively to, say, a prospective employer.
Whites, bright colors, and colors that pop are all generally good choices. Try to stay away from blues, skin-colored, or overly pale or neutral colors, as these tend to be generally unflattering on camera. Red conveys power and authority. Black can do the same, but depending on the blouse and pant options.
Bring a coat or accessory jacket to supplement your outfit. This will give us a quick option for adding another look.
Suits and the like are fine, but we tend to err on the side of business casual. The majority of our clients (who include CEO’s and upper level execs) actually don’t want to stick with the stiff corporate headshot that reached its prime in the 90’s. A white button down with no tie, the top button unbuttoned, and a blazer or tweed jacket? Great.
For a more casual look, solid-colored v-neck or crew neck shirts will work, as well as something like a denim chambray or henley.
No solid-colored dress shirts, period. Acceptable color options are bright-colored or a subtle pinstripe button-down. Otherwise, a white button down is the best way to go.
Don’t forget to bring a jacket.
One final note: the lighting, quality, and aesthetics of the headshot itself will speak well to the professionally of the photograph. It’s important to consider this, as it should help you in not attempting to overcompensate by wearing overly dressy clothing.
If you selected to pay the deposit up front, please bring cash, checkbook, or debit/credit card to pay the remainder of the fee after your shoot. Payments already remitted via The HDH are non-refundable. If there is an issue or problem with payment, or if you think there has been a mistake, please contact us as soon as possible.
Additional shots may purchased during your session. Since you'll get to view all your shots in real time, you'll have the option to purchase any additional shots that you love the day of the shoot. Each additional shot is only $65 when you order the day-of.
